Norman, OK – Norman Public Schools (NPS) is proud to announce that applications are now open for the district’s new Spanish Language Academy (SLA), set to launch in the 2025–2026 school year.
The program will be housed at Truman Primary and Truman Elementary and is open to families of elementary-aged students. While families from surrounding areas are welcome to apply, priority enrollment will be given to students who reside within the NPS district boundaries.
“We are thrilled to offer this new opportunity for students to build bilingual and biliterate skills from an early age,” said Dr. Nick Migliorino, superintendent of Norman Public Schools. “The Spanish Language Academy reflects our commitment to prepare and inspire all students to achieve their full potential.”
Eligibility Criteria
Pre-K through Kindergarten: No prior experience or Spanish language proficiency is required.
Grades 1–5:
Level 1 Pathway: For students transferring from a Spanish language immersion program.
Level 2 Pathway: For students who can demonstrate Spanish language proficiency (and potentially English proficiency) at a level sufficient to meet grade-level academic expectations. An in-person screening is required.
Application Timeline
Applications for Norman residents opened on March 26, 2025.
Non-resident applications will be considered only after all in-district applications are processed.
Application deadline: April 11, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
If applications exceed available spots, enrollment will be determined by a random drawing. A waitlist will be maintained for applicants not initially placed due to capacity limits.
Sibling priority will be given for district transfers to the same school site, although enrollment is not guaranteed.
Drawing & Enrollment
Drawing results will be posted on the NPS website on April 18, 2025, by 4:00 p.m.
Families must complete all enrollment materials by May 9, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. to secure their child’s spot.
